Reflection of first yoga

On Tuesday, February 12, we had our first actual yoga class and I was super pumped. Throughout the entire day I was so excited to get into the class and do some yoga, and when I got there I was not disappointed. Colin makes that class so interesting and I keep finding ways to enjoy the class, because, with him, you never know what you’re going to get.

colin started off the class like normal, talking and making us all laugh, but then when we started doing the actual yoga portion, he was serious (of course he still made us laugh) and was very knowledgable. The best part of the class for me was to get back into the rhythm of things, and actually, feel relaxed for once. The only thing that makes me concerned going forward id my knee. Throughout the class, it wasn’t bothering me at all, until we got into a particular pose, mandukasana (otherwise known to me as Frog). The pose requires you to be on the sides of your knee and after that Asana I found that my knee was irritated and sore, and this irritation continued on throughout the next day or so. So for the future, for myself, poses on knees will have to be something I am more careful of and ask for modifications on.

I find myself wondering, based off of the first class if the yoga classes for me will continue to become easier for me, warming up muscles that were used once before and if I will have to find ways to actually feel the stretch in each pose.  I found myself yesterday in some poses that I could not feel a stretch and was very relaxed in those poses.

I also wonder if I will be able to use these poses at home and incorporate them into my everyday routine, even just for 10 or 20 minutes. I feel as if I can find a way to incorporate it into my routine, I will be able to find some progression being made throughout the rest of the term.

Yoga!

In this section of my portfolio, you will find different sections of my learning

I have a section for my Reflective Journal (see tabs). The tab has my thoughts in journal form to talk about my learning and journey in yoga, specifically in KHS 131. The posts are sorted with the first post being at the very bottom, so the newest post is at the top.

I have a section for my assignments (see tab) where I share links to different writings and assignments that I have done throughout the class. The links will open word docs.

Yoga: All about the Experience

So far in yoga, we have gotten to the point where we have learned about the theory and the history of yoga. We have been tested on this information through a test.

I feel like I have the information packed into my mind, memorized the information. From this point, I am very excited to get into the actual yoga side of the class. Personally, my goal for the semester is to get more in shape. So I feel like yoga will help me, based on the idea that it will help me stretch and gain back the flexibility I had lost since I have quit synchro. Since quitting, I have popping and cracking bones throughout my body. Gaining back the flexibility that I lost will maybe help me not hurt so much anymore.

From the last few classes, I have found myself talking to people about yoga and the things that I learn after each class, especially when I was studying for the midterm. With midterm and studying, I created study cards and was able to talk about everything regarding the card. This meant my friend Sarah and I would talk about yoga using specific names and information as well as facts and things we were taught in class.

Creative Technologies Site!

For Creative Technologies 111 (CTCH 111), we are given the opportunity to create a website and really make it our own. For the site, I learned how to create my own header, using an image I found online and use a quote I found about technology.

Here is the link for that website if you would like to take a look at my journey through technologies

So Far So Good

In KHS 131, so far the class has been something I look forward to. It is a whole new atmosphere for me. The prof, Colin, is a very passionate guy, who knows what he is talking about. The class itself has so much to look forward to. From the way, Colin conducts his lectures, to the actual excitement to learn yoga. So far, we have not yet started doing yoga (which I am super excited for!), we have started the theory aspect of yoga and the history.

Something that I am looking forward to is being able to get the chance to do yoga and learn more about the actual ‘science’ behind yoga. I find myself talking about the class and getting very excited and talking enthusiastically about KHS 131 to others. The class at first didn’t sound very exciting, but then getting into the room on the first day, there were vibes coming from Colin and the rest of the class and the students in the class that got me excited to do yoga. I have not had this excitement for class until that day.

Growing up, I did a lot of yoga for when I was very competitive in Synchronized Swimming. I trained for two years straight at a very high level of intensity in 2013/2014 and competed in 2014 at the Saskatchewan Winter Games. Since then, I have not been as competitive and my body is starting to be affected by the intensity of training I was doing. My shoulders/collarbone crack and pop out of place occasionally, my back hurts all of the time and I used to pull my back out a lot in the years I swam as a provincial competitive swimmer following the games and my knees have been getting to the point where I feel like an old crippled lady. I had a disease in my right knee, OsgoodSchlatter, where there is muscle tearing away from the bone in my knee, worsened by activity. These are only some of the injuries I’ve attained during my time as a competitive swimmer.

I am looking forward to being able to get back into stretching and maybe getting back into shape, better than I am now. I want to be able to use yoga as a way to relax at the end of the day, during the week when other things are happening and it gets crazy.
